Upcoming Grand Cherokee Hits Production Delay

We are proud to share some very exciting news with our greater Colma Jeep enthusiasts. Like us, you have probably been highly anticipating the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, and today we are thrilled to be sharing a few pieces of news with you. However, we do warn you that it's both good and bad.  Let's get the bad out of the way first.  Recently, the Chrysler Group announced to the Detroit Free Press that the SUV's production will be postponed one month. But, on the positive side, the Grand Cherokee is still set to hit showroom floors like ours in Colma, California sometime this fall.

Curious to learn about the reasoning behind the month delay? Well, the American automaker has put a larger emphasis on ensuring launches go seamlessly by enhancing quality control in the latter stages of development.  Jeep also wanted to ensure that the most innovative developments were featured in the upcoming model.

Mark Chernoby, Chrysler Group's Senior Vice President of Engineering, states , "Manufacturing the Cherokee is more complex than most new models because it is designed on an underbody adapted from Fiat, Chrysler's majority owner. The Cherokee also is the first Chrysler vehicle to feature a nine-speed transmission developed with German supplier ZF Group."1

In terms of sales numbers, the postponement may negatively affect the automaker's profits. But, sales may recover quite quickly.
